Institute of Economics and Demography

of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan

        Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan was established by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan №33 dated February 4, 2011, on the basis of the merger of two research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan - the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Demography.

Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 20, 2020, №1505, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (further NAST) was named the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

Based on the nomination to the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the Charter of the Institute was approved by the decision of the Board of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan №58 dated April 19, 2022.

The goal and tasks of the Institute based on the Charter:

- involvement of scientific forces for the development of the most important areas of fundamental and applied scientific research on the modern economy, obtaining results that are of primary importance for the scientific-technical progress and socio-economic development of the society;

- development of recommendations for the use of the results of scientific research in the national economy;

- preparation of prospects for the development of economic and demographic processes;

- training of highly qualified scientific personnel;

- improvement of forms of organization and coordination of scientific researches;

- ensuring a high scientific level of research, obtaining high scientific results.

Present time, researchers of the Institute of Economics and Demography of NAST conducting scientific-research activities within the framework of 1 scientific-research theme for 2020-2024 and 6 scientific-research themes for 2021-2025, which are planned by the Scientific-Research Coordination Council of the Republic of Tajikistan:

1. The role of diasporas and migrants in the investment of economic and social development of the Republic of Tajikistan (registration №0120ТJ01039, dated 18.03.2020), under the guidance of A.A.Boboev - Candidate of Economic Sciences.

2. Theoretical-methodological issues of innovative development of the economy in the Republic of Tajikistan (registration №0121ТJ1116, dated 15.03.2021), under the guidance of M.T. Karimova - Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor.

3. Working-out of a plan for the development and deployment of the productive forces of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2040 (registration №0121ТJ1115, dated 15.03.2021), under the guidance of academician of NAST, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor N.K.Qayumov

4. History of the economic thoughts of the Tajik people (from ancient times to the 21st century) (registration №0121ТJ1112, dated 15.03.2021), under the guidance of Corresponding member of NAST, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Saidmurodzoda L.H.

5. Working-out of a macro model of the small open economy of Tajikistan (registration №0121ТJ1113 dated 15.03.2021), under the guidance of F.M. Muminova - Candidate of Economic Sciences.

6. Social and economic consequences of demographic processes in the conditions of industrial and innovative development of the Republic of Tajikistan (registration №0121ТJ1117 dated 15.03.2021), under the guidance of A.I.Subkhonov - Candidate of Economic Sciences.

7. Institutional support of industrial development of the regions of the Republic of Tajikistan (registration number №0121ТJ1114, dated 15.03.2021), under the leadership of D.I.I., Professor Mirsaidov A.B.

Depending on the current scientific projects, the following scientific departments are currently functioning at the Institute:

1. Department of Research on the Development and Allocation of Productive Forces (head of the department - academician of NAST, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor N.K.Qayumov);

2. Department of Comparative Economic Researches (head of the department - Corresponding member of NAST, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Saidmurodzoda L.H.);

3. Department of Theoretical Researches and Foreign Economic Relations (head of the department - Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor M.T. Karimova,);

4. Department of Infrastructure Studies (head of the department - Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Raufy A.);

5. Department of Institutional Studies (head of the department - Candidate of Economic Sciences, A.L.Alimov);

6. Department of Modeling and Forecasting of Socio-Economic Processes (head of the department - Candidate of Economic Sciences, F.M. Muminova);

7. Department of Demographic Researches (head of the department - Candidate of Economic Sciences. A.I. Subkhonov).

Personnel and training of scientific personnel

Currently, 85 people work in the institution, 66 of them are scientific workers. There are 10 doctors of sciences and 26 candidates of sciences among researchers.

Among all researchers 25 are women, including 1 doctor of science and 6 candidates of sciences.

Currently, 39 graduate students are studying at the institution at the master's level, of which 14 are girls. At the PhD level, 44 people are employed in scientific-research works, 6 of them are girls.

Currently, 49 degree applicants are employed in scientific and research works in the institution.

Scientific and publishing activity

Based on the scientific results obtained over the past 10 years, the institution's researchers have published more than 1,407 scientific works, including more than 129 books and monographs, 1,278 scientific and social scientific articles, including 128 articles abroad.

Activities of the Dissertation Council

By the order of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan №44 of October 27, 2017 (extension №245 of 8.11.2019) at the Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Dissertation Council 6D.KOA-021 on the specialty (PhD ), according to specialties 6D051000 - state and local management and 6D051800 - project management, as well as according to the degree of candidate of economic sciences, according to specialties 05.13.10 - Management in social and economic systems, 05.02.22 - organization of production (by sectors) was established which are following:

- in 2018 - 10 people defended (2 women), of which 1 is an employee of the Institute and 1 is a graduate of the Institute;

- in 2019 - 18 people defended (6 women), among them 1 employee of the Institute and 11 degree seekers of the Institute;

- in 2020 - 18 people defended (4 women), among them 5 employees of the Institute and 7 degree seekers of the Institute;

- in 2021 - 13 people defended (5 women), of which 3 are employees of the Institute and 5 are applicants of the Institute.

During the functioning of the Dissertation Council 6D.KOA-021 under the Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, 59 people successfully defended their scientific dissertations, including 1 doctor by specialty (PhD), 58 candidates of sciences.

After the expiration of the term of activity of Dissertation Council 6D.KOA-021 in accordance with clauses 9 and 18 of the Regulation of the state institution "Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan" (Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated November 10, 2021, №270) and clause 15 of the Regulation of the Dissertation Council (decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated June 30, 2021, №267) and according to the order of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan №17sh/d of January 7, 2022 (changes and additions in the Dissertation Council of 29.11.2022 under №268sh/d.). Dissertation Council 6D.KOA-017 on specialties 6D050700 - Management (6D050704 - Organization and management of enterprises, systems and complexes) and 6D051000 - State and local administration (6D051003 - Economic security) and on obtaining the scientific degree of candidate of economic sciences and doctor economic sciences by specialization 08.00.06 - Economics and management according to the areas of activity (08.00.06.01 - Economic security and 08.00.06.04 - Organization and management of enterprises, systems and complexes) at the Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan began its functioning.

During the period of activity in the Dissertation Council 6D.KOA-017:

- in 2022 - 5 people defended, of which 2 are women;

- in 2023 - 18 people (two doctorates) defended (4 women), of which 3 are employees of the Institute and 3 are applicants of the Institute;

- in 2024 - 6 people (one doctor) defended (2 women), of which 1 is an employee of the Institute and 1 is a graduate of the Institute.

In the last 10 years, 4 people defended doctoral theses (traditional), 2 people defended Ph.D. theses, and 16 people defended candidate theses.
