Research Institution “Chinese-Tajik Innovation Center for Natural Products”
Brief information on the history of the establishment of a scientific and research institution - The establishment of the joint center is based on the instructions of the Founder of National Peace and Unity, the Great Leader of the Nation, His Excellency, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, on the processing and production of medicinal products from native medicinal plants.
Research Institute Chinese-Tajik Innovation Center for Natural Products, National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan was established with access of the agreement on scientific cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the Chinese Academy of Sciences from September 13, 2014, in order to strengthen scientific cooperation and its implementation in the most important areas of fundamental research and applied in the fields of natural and technical sciences and on the basis of the protocol meeting on cooperation from May 4, 2018, between the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The main areas of scientific activity Research Institute Chinese-Tajik Innovation Center for Natural Products, National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan are:
1. Study of natural products of the Republic of Tajikistan, including a detailed study of chemical composition, separation and investigation of pharmacological properties of biologically active substances from medicinal plants of the Republic of Tajikistan.
2. Bilateral scientific cooperation and training of highly qualified personnel in the field of chemistry of natural compounds, pharmacology and pharmaceuticals.
Achievements
Phytochemistry and biological activity of secondary metabolites of Hypericum scabrum, Geranium collinum, Anaphalis virgata, Angelica ternate, Artemisia dracunculus L., Artemisia leucotricha, Artemisia annua L., Artemisia vachanica, Prangos pabularia Lindl., Dracocephalum heterophyllum Benth., Cercis griffithii, Helichrysum thianschanicum Regel, Ferula kuhistanica, Hyssopus seravchanicus have been studied and the results of our research have been published in prestigious international scientific journals. Artemisinin (antimalarial substance) was found in seven Artemisia species collected from Tajikistan. The amount of artemisinin in the dry mass of Artemisia species samples was equal to 0.07% to 0.45%. Artemisia vachanica is a new plant source of artemisinin. Alcoholic extracts of Artemisia annua and Artemisia vachanica have shown beneficial effects in the treatment of patients with symptoms of the coronavirus disease COVID-19. The activity of extracts of Hypericum scabrum and Geranium collinum against type 2 diabetes was studied and significant results were obtained.
